Superb estate with historic villa, panoramic swimming pool, Cortona, Tuscany
MDI_A101
This exquisite estate with historic villa sits on the prominent hilltop of Petrischio, which holds important historical reference within the area. The original property was built during the 17th century, a part of which remains to this day, under the guise of the main villa. (Due to a competing residence in Valdichiana, pressure was put on the monks of the Abbey to relinquish a portion of the property, reducing the imposing Abbey to little more than that we can still admire today.) During the 18th century an Oratory was built and dedicated to St. John the Baptist, and can still be visited within the property.
Fortunately, the residence was rescued with a skilful and considered restoration, which was carried out in the 1970’s. During the 90’s the villa was opened to tourists as a 4-star luxury hotel and has the capacity to accommodate 50 people. For the last 20 years, the villa has been used as a private residence by the owners.
The estate comprises; the main manor house, a 2-storey house, both totalling 17 bedrooms, 19 bathrooms, 4 reception rooms, a small Ortary and a swimming pool with solarium.
A beautiful feature that sits between two of the buildings is a curved pond, with a charming bridge to cross over. The estate is enhanced by the mature gardens that reveal diverse plants and flowers, including ancient cypress trees.
The Villa
The main building is full of character and can be run as a stylish boutique hotel. The ground floor comprises of a luxurious reception room, a lunch/breakfast room, a reading room, a kitchen, pantry and bathroom. A staircase leads up to the first floor where you find the living room, a utility room, lobby, four bedrooms with bathrooms. Continuing up to the second floor, we find a second living room, a service space, hallway, and another four bedrooms with bathrooms. The third/top floor contains an additional room and a bathroom.
There are many charming traditional features that adorn the property, all the highest quality, which include; brickwork archways, rustic wooden beams, to terracotta flooring, altogether adding a richness of colour and texture to the interiors.
The Borgo
Within the grounds of the estate sits an additional 2-storey house, which consists of the following: a reception room boasting beautiful interior finishes, a dressing room and storage room. A technical room in the basement.
The additional buildings have been recently restored, recovering the original construction and consisting of added rooms, lounges and bathrooms, which have been created to service/support the business within the main villa.
The swimming pool
A generously sized swimming pool enjoys the most wonderful panoramic views and is surrounded by a large terracotta paved area, which is ideal for sunbathing or dining “al fresco”.
A spacious solarium that measures approx. 600 sqm adjoins the pool, and contains a kitchen, bathroom and storage area, a space for accommodating diners, which can also be used as a reception area for guests.
